What is Vipassana Meditation ?

What is Vipassana? What is the process of this meditation technique? Why it is so special, like always there is a waiting list for it.

For example, take Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, beautifully explained 112 meditation techniques, so the reader can follow the techniques mentioned in the book as per their own needs or capability.

Even in Buddhism there are so many meditation practices mentioned in the scriptures.

Why Vipassana is special? Or just a hype?

If you are referring to Goenka style Vipassana, then it is just a specific format and technique. You can get very good meditation from a 10 day silent retreat.
One starts by doing meditation on the breathing, tip of the nose is recommended, and and then you begin to scan the body and the feelings from head to feet and back up from feet to head.

They encourage you to sit without moving at all for one hour. It can be challenging, but it is good training.

I do feel it lacks in terms of balancing meditation practice and buddhist scriptures as a whole. It is very narrowly focused.

Overall, I feel it is a good form. It misses in some ways, but I think it is a good community.
